AMELIA DE CARRERO

Amelia de Carrero was born in Bailadores, Merida, Venezuela, in 1950. She has worked as an artist for more that thirty years. She paints the local people, places, and customs of Venezuela as well as religious and historical figures. In 2003, one of Carrero's paintings - "Pueblito Andino" - was selected to be part of UNICEF's art collection and part of Galerie Bonheur's permanent collection.

In 2005, one of her wood carvings was purchased by the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, NM to be a part of their permanent collection. In 2007 and in 2009 Amelia was invited to the United States for the first time to participate and exhibit her art at the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market. She will be attending and selling her work at the Market this year in July of 2009. This will assure her incredible renown and fame in spite of living in the small remote village by Bailadores in Venezuela.
