PIERRE JOSEPH VALCIN
Pierre Joseph Valcin from Port au Prince, Haiti, who is now deceased, loved nature, flowers, and his country. His world of exotic vegetation and exquisitely colored imaginary birds allowed him an escape from the miserable slums of the capital. Strange women with brightly colored hair and clothing, dreamlike, outlandish flowers were his signature and made him one of Haiti's greatest naïve painters. His work is highly revered among collectors of Haitian Art, and his paintings are among the permanent collections of the Musee d'Art Haitian, the Davenport (Iowa) Museum of Art, the Waterloo (Iowa) Museum of Art and the New Orleans Museum of Art. His work has been widely exhibited in Europe, the USA and Japan.
