Abel Perez
Like his fellow artist Benito Ortiz, also from the city of Trinidad in Cuba, Abel paints his love of the town. However, unlike Ortiz, he goes beyond the history of Trinidad to explore the history and geography of the entire island and even beyond. He does this with bright colors, dotted textures, and often very busy, crowded canvases. Of short stature and mirthful, high energy, Abel is one of Cuba's most beloved folk artists. He is 94 years old and still painting at his home in Trinidad.
