Marcia Muth
Marcia Muth, born in Fort Wayne, IN in 1919, grew up in Indiana and Western New York State. She attended the University of Michigan, receiving the Degrees of BA and MALS. A self-taught artist, she started painting in 1974. Long interested in American History, Muth has made it her special mission to paint scenes of the 1930s. These include domestic scenes as well as street scenes, diners, shops, and factories. Her work is in private and public collections including The Jewish Museum (New York), Museum of Fine Arts (New Mexico), Museum of Naive Art (Paris, France), Alburquerque Museum (New Mexico) and the Art Museum of Southeast Texas. Her work has also been used for greeting cards, calendar, magazine, and book covers. A book WORDS AND IMAGES, poetry and black and white drawings by Muth will be published in 2004 by Sunstone Press.
In 2007, Marcia Muth wrote her own book - "A World Set Apart" - in which she describes her paintings and her process. On why she paints images from the 1930s: "It was a time of new inventions, new technology and freedom to explore and open up new territories in art, literature, and music. These was also a feeling of neighborliness and mutual respect...[it was] a time of transition, combining the past with the latest and newest."
