Ed Johnson
Born in New York City in 1934 and raised in Northern New Jersey, Edwin Johnson began to paint folk art in 1983. In a relatively short period of time, he has created remarkable scenes depicting his views of daily country and village living. He resides in Fly Creek, New York, just north of Cooperstown. Johnson devotes most evenings to his painting and works out of his living room studio. Villages, farmhouses, and country comprise his subject matter, their inhabitants his focal points. He likes to deal in seasonal presentations of life in Central New York State, New England, and Atlantic coastal towns. His art combines the tangibles of the above with his thoughts and feelings concerning daily living in the 1790s through the 1990s. More recently, landscape scenes and other topical subjects have been completed, reflecting a broader subject matter not related to his familiar New York State environment. His first solo show was held in 1988.
