CONNIE SWINSON
Honey Constance Harriet Schulman Swinson was born in Brooklyn, New York, November 18, 1931.
Nomadic by nature, perhaps due to a Jewish heritage, she moved around, different cities, states, countries and in every place painting the experience. She married and eventually had three children. Kyle the oldest, born in Mexico City, David, Aberdeen South Dakota and Sara, a small town called Golden, Colorado. Her husband, luckily, joined the foreign service and they lived years at a time in places like Mexico City, where she painted voraciously and Beirut Lebanon, where the Arab culture intrigued her. The paintings done during those periods reflect the depth of experiences. She continued traveling, spending time in Stockholm, Sweden, Mallorca, Spain, Seal Beach, California. Each place has it's own story and Swinson tells these stories in her work. It is not only a reflection of the environment but of the emotional state. Some generated confusion, extreme color and a hodgepodge of faces and places while others, beautifully rhythmic and simple.
Living in St. Louis now, Swinson finds herself striving to find a story. It is her passion to capture something new wherever she goes. Each place, each situation, each person propels her on her journey to seek perfect color, form and rhythm.
