WHAT'S NEW
A special appeal for a gift of life for an “ANGEL”, (with purchase of a treasure!)
February 1, 2011
Dear friends and clients,
I attach a story told by my husband David after his first trip to Guatemala with me in December 2010. In short: we fell in love with Angel, our caddy, who is suffering from a rare form of cancer. In Guatemala, the health care system is poor, and only those who have money can pay for better care.
Angel has no money. He is 26 years old, and he has a wife and child. Since he was such an exceptional and energetic young man, who impressed us with his caddy skills….running around the course chasing our balls and giving us instructions to make better shots, and waiting on us hand and foot….we immediately wanted to hire him for the second day of golf at La Reunion. That second day we were smitten, and when he shared his sad story, we cried with him.
In summary, we could not go back to the comfortable USA without trying to help ANGEL in some way. We both vowed to try to find a way to send at least some of the money needs for tests, medicines, and treatments for this potentially devastating disease.
Thus, I am organizing a special SALE in which I will send 50% of all monies for Guatemalan art purchases to Angel’s health care fund. I will also contribute 10% of any other purchases in the next 6 weeks for this purpose.
The amount needed right now is $1500.00.If I get just a few sales I will be thrilled!
I hope you can help in this endeavor, which is so close to my heart.
I promise that the money collected will go directly to help this unique and extraordinary human being who touched our hearts so dearly.Gratefully,

GUATEMALA- LAND OF CONTRASTS
ANGEL’S STORYGuatemala is a land of contrasts.
For every bad experience I had, I was rewarded with a good experience 10X better. Angel was one of those contrasts except in reverse. At Le Reunion I spent 5 ½ hours with him on the golf course. He was my caddie; one of the most enthusiastic, passionate, well-trained caddies I ever experienced. He has a passion for playing the game as well and did so, with borrowed clubs. When I hit a good shot he got more excited than I did and when I hit a poor shot he ran to retrieve it. Soon, he was giving me lessons even though he had played for only 2 years. At the conclusion of the round I gave him a nice tip, and a couple of golf shirts and balls which he proudly showed to his fellow caddies; he was so grateful.
That night Laurie and I learned that Angel has had cancer for the past 4 years. He had begun treatment but could not continue it due to lack of funds. The next day when was a contrast of a different nature. Laurie and I went out to play with our caddie, intending to pretend we didn’t know about his problems. But on the 12th hole, Angel wanted to take our pictures which he did with the same professionalism with which he caddied. We asked if we could take his picture as well. Laurie said “Angel, you are so handsome and strong.” Angel replied, “No Senora Laurita - I am dying.” For the next 2 holes, we walked and cried together as Angel shared his story with us. On the last hole we told him we wanted to help. I gave him my favorite, his first, club and he was shaking and speechless.
At lunch, he presented us with this signed flag showing his appreciation. We hugged and cried all over again. Angel needs $1500 for his next round of treatment. He earns less than $ 100 weekly as a caddy to support himself, and his wife and 3 year old daughter. We want to give Angel a fighting chance. So, Laurie is sharing a portion of the proceeds of all of her Guatemala sales for Angel. Please consider making a contribution to help this energetic, courageous young man who has such a passion for life to have a better chance at survival.
